Spring is the perfect time to reassess what’s hanging in your closet. If you’re holding onto clothes you no longer wear, a seasonal cleanout doesn’t just free up space—it puts usable items back into the hands of people who need them.
Start with a Clean Slate
Begin by taking everything out of your closet. Yes—everything. This gives you a clear view of what you own and helps you be more intentional about what goes back in.
Sort into three categories:
- Keep — worn in the last 12 months, fits well, and makes you feel confident
- Donate — gently used, clean, and wearable but no longer needed
- Discard — stained, torn, or too worn to be useful to anyone
Be realistic about the “keep” pile. If something hasn’t been touched in over a year, the odds are good it won’t be worn in the next one either.
Where to Donate: StyleXchange
At StyleXchange, we offer two main ways for people to access clothing: through our Clothing Program, which provides free clothing to clients, and as a Thrift Store open to the public, offering high-quality, gently-used clothing at affordable prices. StyleXchange has something for everyone. Our goal is to make clothing accessible to all!
By shopping at StyleXchange, you’re supporting our mission and programs at Valley Outreach. Revenue generated by StyleXchange goes directly into client programs.
What to Donate
To help us move clothing efficiently from donation to the sales floor, we ask that items be clean, gently used, and in season. Our staff and volunteers carefully inspect each donation to ensure it is in good condition and ready to wear. Because of limited storage space, we are only able to hold in-season items.
From April through September, we accept items such as:
- Shorts
- Sandals
- Tees
- Light jackets
- Tennis shoes
- Summer hats
- Polo shirts
- New, unworn swimsuits
Items should be clean and free of major damage. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable giving it to a friend, set it aside for the discard pile instead.
How to Donate
Donation drive-up hours are Monday 9:30 AM–12:30 PM and Tuesday/Thursday 1:30–6:30 PM. Simply follow the signs and drive around the west side of the building to pull up to our donation dock with the yellow door. Please assist volunteers with unloading donations if you are able.
