Every week, Valley Outreach has volunteer opportunities available to support our Food Shelf and our StyleXchange clothing store. Local groups such as church groups, youth groups, social groups, civic groups, and more band together to volunteer with us! Youth volunteer opportunities are also available, but some restrictions apply. Review our Youth Volunteering Guidelines for more details.
Contact our volunteer manager, Kenny McCoy (651-342-5563), to coordinate a group volunteering event. Groups are usually about 15 to 20 people and may do things like sort clothing for StyleXchange and clean our SuperShelf.
At our food shelf we make it easier for clients to access healthy foods, while promoting individual choice. Our certified SuperShelf people can choose from a variety of products like fresh produce, deli items, milk, eggs, meat and packaged items.
Through our clothing program, clients may select high-quality, like-new clothing at no cost to them. We provide growing kids with clothes that fit, adults with apparel right for their needs, everyone with warm gear for cold weather and the whole family with new socks and underwear.
Offsite Volunteering for Groups
The following volunteer opportunities support Valley Outreach in offsite locations.
- RCS Giving Garden: Valley Outreach has been the recipient of thousands of pounds of fresh produce from the RCS Giving Garden since 2009. They need help weeding and harvesting their huge garden. Weeding can happen anytime – you just need to meet with a Master Gardener first and they’ll show you what to do. Harvesting includes dropping off whatever you harvest at Valley Outreach right after you harvest! Email Liz Smith at [email protected] to volunteer. The RCS Giving Garden is located at Retail Construction Services, 11343 39th Street N., Lake Elmo, MN 55042.
- Your Own Garden – Another option is to plant a row in your own garden and donate the fresh produce you harvest to Valley Outreach.
- Clothing or Food Drives – Interested in hosting a food, clothing and fund drive? This is a wonderful way to engage your group in working together to reach a common coals. Learn more on our Food Donations page or Clothing Donations page.
