April’s here, and it’s not just about showers and flowers—it’s also National Volunteer Month! It’s that time of year when we celebrate the amazing folks who roll up their sleeves and dive into making communities better.

But what’s the buzz about National Volunteer Month?

The origins of this month-long ode to volunteerism can be traced back to the early 1970s when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing the month of April as National Volunteer Month. Nixon’s declaration aimed to honor the efforts of volunteers across the nation and encourage more people to get involved in their communities. Since then, April has been synonymous with recognizing the selfless acts of kindness that volunteers bring to the table. It’s a time to shine a spotlight on those who dedicate their time, energy, and skills to making the world a better place.

Volunteers are the Heart of Valley Outreach

Valley Outreach is a community-powered nonprofit that provides food, clothing, and support to people who need help. And guess who’s at the heart of it all? Yep, you guessed it—volunteers! They’re the friendly faces at intake, the people putting in elbow grease to stock shelves and coolers with care, and the ones sorting through clothing donations.

And why are volunteers so darn important to Valley Outreach? Well, it’s more than just getting the job done (though they definitely do that too!). Volunteers bring a whole lot of heart to the table. They come from all walks of life, bringing their unique talents and experiences along for the ride. They’re out there spreading the word, rallying the troops, and getting everyone hyped about making a difference. They’re not just changing lives; they’re inspiring others to do the same.

So, this National Volunteer Month, let’s celebrate all the volunteers who make Valley Outreach the amazing place it is.

Interested in Volunteering at Valley Outreach?

We rely on volunteers to serve thousands of people every year.  We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups, and youth to make a difference in the lives of people we help.

You can pick from a variety of time slots and choose a volunteer opportunity of greatest interest to you or your group. Due to the nature of our work, some volunteer positions require additional training, skills, experience or a background check.  We will also have you attend a volunteer orientation to learn more about Valley Outreach and volunteering with us.
