Valley Outreach has made strides over the past year to prioritize racial equity and social justice in all aspects of its operations. Recognizing the need for change, our organization has invested time, resources, and commitment to ensure that racial equity and social justice become a cornerstone of our identity.

Valley Outreach’s dedication is not a checkbox; it is a cultural shift that permeates every facet of our organization. We believe that fostering an inclusive environment is not just a responsibility but an opportunity for growth, understanding, and empathy.
 
We believe that principles of racial equity and social justice should be seamlessly woven into all that we do. We know it will take time, we know we won’t always get it right, but it’s important that we keep moving forward. As we embark on this journey, we are planning for a multitude of positive changes that will place racial equity and social justice at the forefront, ensuring that they become integral elements in our mission and values. 

Below are the efforts currently undway:

Training and Resources  
Volunteers, staff, and board members will have access to training and resources to empower them with the knowledge and skills needed to interact sensitively, inclusively and respectfully with all. By fostering a learning environment, we want to be ambassadors of racial equity and social justice.  

Messaging Around the Building 
The physical environment at Valley Outreach will have inclusive messaging displayed prominently. This visual representation of our commitment to racial equity and social justice will serve as a constant reminder of our shared values and the importance of creating a space where everyone feels welcome. 

Open Conversations 
We understand the power of dialogue in driving change. We will provide more opportunities for open conversations about racial equity and social justice with the staff team. These discussions will provide a platform for sharing experiences, addressing concerns, and fostering a sense of unity among our community. These open conversations will invite vulnerability and embrace the challenge of difficult discussions, recognizing that it is through these honest and sometimes uncomfortable dialogues that true growth and understanding can occur. 

New Recruiting Strategies 
Our commitment to racial equity and social justice extends to our recruitment strategies. We are actively recruiting volunteers, board, and staff members with diverse and rich perspectives so clients can see themselves reflected in the community at Valley Outreach. We strive to create an environment for clients where members of our organization can relate in a meaningful way and provide a sense of belonging.
