A Perfect Group Activity — With Real Impact During the SNAP Benefit Disruption
On Nov. 1, thousands of Minnesotans will experience a sudden disruption to their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) food benefits due to the federal government shutdown. At Valley Outreach, we are already seeing increased need, and local community support is more important than ever.
Right now, one of the best ways groups can help is by assembling Food-to-Go Bags for immediate distribution to families in need.

What Are Food-to-Go Bags?
Food-to-Go Bags are pre-packed, shelf-stable bags designed to feed a family of four for one full day. They are easy to quickly distribute to families in need, both onsite at Valley Outreach and through partner locations.
Creating Food-to-Go bags is ideal for:
- Families looking to give back together
- Faith-based groups
- Classrooms or youth groups
- Corporate or business service projects
- Neighborhood or community groups
We have clear packing instructions with shelf-stable items that are easy to purchase and widely appreciated. Just pack new, non-expired items on the list in a reusable grocery bag or paper shopping bag and drop them off at Valley Outreach — and we’ll make sure they get into the hands of neighbors who need them immediately.
To donate, simply follow the signs and drive around the West side of our building (to the right side) to pull up to our donation dock with the bright yellow door. Please assist volunteers with unloading donations as you are able.
Valley Outreach Is Expanding Access to Food
To respond to the growing demand, we are also:
- Expanding shopping appointments as staffing allows
- Extending Monday food pick-ups to 4 p.m.
- Doubling the amount of fresh produce in every food pick-up
We will continue to adjust and respond as the situation continues.
