Everyone deserves to have the resources they need to care for their household. At Valley Outreach, supporting a household means looking at the whole picture — including the relationships and responsibilities that matter most to them.
For many households, pets are part of the family. They provide companionship, comfort, and connection, and caring for them is an important part of supporting the household as a whole.
That’s why our food shelf makes pet food available alongside the other resources we provide.
A Need for Cat Food
Each month, we highlight an item that is especially needed to help keep our shelves stocked. This October, we’re asking for cat food.
We currently have a good supply of dog food, but our supply of cat food is running low. Donations of both canned and dry cat food help ensure that households who rely on the food shelf can access food for their cats, too.
When someone is already stretching their budget to cover groceries, housing, utilities and other necessities, the cost of feeding a pet can add another challenge. Having pet food available through the food shelf can help make those limited resources go a little further.
Caring for the Whole Household
When resources are limited, people make difficult choices about how to make sure everyone they care about has enough. For some people, that means feeding their pets before feeding themselves.
That choice comes from a deep sense of responsibility and love. But no one should have to go without food to make sure their pet has enough to eat.
Providing pet food is one way we can help ease that pressure. It gives people an opportunity to care for their pets while preserving their limited resources for other essential needs.
How You Can Help
If you’re able, consider adding a bag or cans of cat food to your next shopping trip and donating them to Valley Outreach.
A bag of cat food might seem like a small gift, but for a household facing a difficult time, it can mean one less thing to worry about and one more way to care for the family they love.
Together, we can help make sure everyone has the food and support they need — including our four-legged family members.
