Beginning October 1, 2022, StyleXchange will no longer distribute socks and underwear to clients. We are making this change to better serve clients in different ways.
StyleXchange Supports Family Budgets
An important priority for StyleXchange is to help clients free up their budgets by providing high-quality clothing at no cost. Clients can use the money they save to pay for other expenses. We want to ensure every client who comes to StyleXchange leaves feeling comfortable and with the items they need most. By making this change, we can fill critical gaps in our inventory and purchase things like winter gear, kids clothes and hard to find sizes.
Why Is This Change Happening Now?
After thoughtfully evaluating the program over the past year, the socks and underwear distribution process does not address the needs of clients adequately or equitably. Here’s what we learned from our shoppers/clients:
- The socks and underwear distribution process does not always meet clients’ most urgent clothing needs.
- The socks and underwear distribution process can be an unpleasant experience for clients – with long wait times and inconsistent inventory.
- Clients can manage the cost of socks and underwear from low-cost retailers and get their preferred sizes and styles.
- It takes considerable time and resources to manage, that could be better spent on meeting different client needs.
How You Can Help!
We are grateful to the creative community partners and faith communities that have collected these items through past Undie Sunday drives. We now have an opportunity to turn that creativity to other emerging and urgent needs. You are welcome to contact our StyleXchange Manager, Hannah Sutcliffe, to learn more about other needs in our clothing program. (Winter coat drive, anyone?)
If you’d like to support StyleXchange, you can help a number of different ways! Please donate new or gently used clothing for all members of the family, make a financial donation or volunteer with us.
